Slalom canoeists are similar, you can’t build up an ego because as soon as you do, the water proves you wrong. Almost all the canoeists I know are very nice people. It doesn’t get much publicity either. Most of the athletes train somewhere between 2 times a week to every day (including cross training). It requires strength, technique and mental focus. I believe it’s more underrated than hockey because most people know about hockey. Tell someone you like canoe slalom, a common response is ‘you mean like rowing?’
